Light of the World Service

Christ said, “You are the light of the world” (Mt. 5:14). We are called to live as a reflection of Christ and go out into the world to serve others and spread His Good News by our actions and words. We bring God’s love and compassion to those in need when we reach out to others and perform Works of Mercy.

Participation in our "Light of the World" service program is a graduation and annual requirement. Students must complete a minimum of 15 service hours per school year: at least 10 hours must be Works of Mercy and no more than 5 hours can be Other Service (non Works of Mercy) or students may perform all 15 hours in Works of Mercy. Students are encouraged to perform service over and above the requirement. They should report all their hours since they will receive credit for bonus hours that exceed the requirement.

Refer to the Approved Works of Mercy Organizations that are recognized for credit. If students find an organization not on the approved works of mercy list, and it meets the criteria for works of mercy service, they can contact the Coordinator of Campus Ministry to have that organization approved and added to the list. Guidelines for what is NOT Accepted As Service should also be reviewed.

All service activity must be reported electronically on x2VOL.  Students were trained in the fall on how to access x2VOL (through Naviance). Students must enter the email address of the supervisor for their service. x2VOL will automatically send an email to the supervisor requesting verification for the service activity. After the supervisor verifies the information, the Coordinator of Campus Ministry will approve the x2VOL report.

Service reports should be entered in x2VOL no later 5 full school days after completion of the service to receive full credit. Service performed during a school break needs to be submitted no later than 5 full school days after the break.

5 Works of Mercy service hours must be performed and reported during first semester.

Due Date: December 1, 2017 as indicated on the BT calendar sent to all families.
Balance of service hours are due no later than April 20, 2018.
Seniors who qualify to exempt final exams must submit their service hours on these due dates.

Students who do not fulfill the annual service requirement:
May not run for student government or hold any leadership position.
Seniors will not walk at graduation nor will they be able to exempt final exams.

Campus Ministry offers a service honor cord for seniors who complete 100 or more Works of Mercy service hours during their academic years at BT. Seniors who are eligible* may order the cord in Campus Ministry in April.
